Let's Talk Feeding Times

The major and minor feeding times are those times of the day that animals are predicted to be more active and feeding more than other times. There are two minors and two majors every day and they are based on the moon position. The minor is based on moonrise and moonset while the major is based on the moon being directly overhead (moon over) or directly underneath (move under).
Some people don’t put too much effort into trying to be on the water at their spot a little before a major or a minor. Then there are others who won't even fish during times that are not in a major or minor window since they consider it a waste of time. There have certainly been plenty of fish caught outside of the windows and let’s face it, you may not have the flexibility to be fishing during a specific time of the day. You go when you can go. Me too!
However, given the increased activity of these time windows (scientific fact) it would be worth reviewing your recent days on the water when you did good, or not so good. Write those times down and go back and review the Solonar tables for those days - were you in a major or minor?
Sometimes I’ll fish the full two hours of a major and not get a bite. But maybe I was in a bad spot and had nothing else going for me. Other times I’ll fish outside of the major and crush it. But overall, as I track my success over time, I’m convinced there’s certainly some benefit to fishing these time windows.
How the 361 Fishing App Helps
The app has feeding times for every day and you can scroll forward and backward in the list. This allows you to plan your fishing trip a few days or weeks in advance in order to capitalize on these windows. We also have "When to go" in which feeding times is one element of the logic to determine the best time to go on a particular day. Those times are rated as OK, Good, or Great. You have what you need to make the most of it.
