Well, it was supposed to be a big rainstorm and grew into something more than that. How many times have we heard that? How many times have the weather forecasts and expert meteorologists nailed it? I can't remember the last time.
As we sift through the damage on the roads and see many piers wiped away yet again, a few things come to mind. First, always assume it will be 10X worse than anyone tells you. Only then will you truly be prepared. Next, I think the fishing this fall is going to be really good.
I was recently reading the latest issue of "Saltwater Angler" and Capt. Jeff Wolda said he's made it out this spring in only two of twenty-four chartered trips. Wow. I can also say that the weather has kept me on dry land most of the year so far as well, just like many anglers I know. Fishing pressure overall is way down this year given very few boats on the water due to high winds and small craft advisories. It will be a while now even if the weather is nice due to all of the debris and hazards in the water.
So, what does that mean for this fall when hurricane season is past us? I think we're going to see some of the best fishing yet. More fish available than usual means greater odds of landing many.
I'm not a scientist or marine biologist. It's just a hunch but I'm sticking to it. Stay safe.
